From The Ashes, 2022
Designed for L1 brief ‘Found Type’This is the first and only typeface I have produced. Our brief involved designing a typeface from a given theme, mine being ‘Rebirth’. I chose to pursue the idea of rebirthing through flames, taking inspiration from the myth of the Phoenix. By physically burning paper cutouts of letters, followed by scanning and sketching each charred character, I was able to design a display typeface which was subsequently named ‘From The Ashes’. Part 2 of this task was to physically display the typeface and manipulate it in an appropriate fashion, for me this meant setting it ablaze!
